You will have clinical experiences, in hospitals and community/Long Term Care settings in semester three and four of the program. Students in the Pharmacy Technician program are required to secure their own community placement site in Semester 3. Failure to provide any of the required Non Academic Field Requirements by the specified due date will result in an inability to participate in the mandatory placement components of the program. Each semester must be successfully completed before enrolling in the next semester. A major emphasis of this program is active student participation. Throughout the program the instructor will encourage the students to become increasingly more self directed and responsible for their own learning. Students are expected to come to class well prepared for active participation in classroom and lab activities. As a Community Pharmacy Assistant, working alongside a registered pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician, you are an integral part of the healthcare team that provides community pharmaceutical services. In all programs, however, students can expect lab work and work placements as part of the curriculum. Though they do not actually dispense medications themselves, pharmacy technicians collaborate with pharmacists in the preparation and dispensation of medication, as well as in providing customer care. Semester 2 focuses on hospital pharmacy practice, including the preparation of sterile products. Semester 2 is 11 weeks in duration. Students must successfully complete all courses in Semester 2 before enrolling in Semester 3. To register on the ACP Student Register, please submit a completed application form and all the items specified on the application checklist to ACP. PEBC Qualifying Exam results must be current within 3 years at the time of application for initial pharmacist licensure. If exam results exceed the 3-year limit, the provisional pharmacist will be required to retake both Part I and Part II of the PEBC Qualifying Exam prior to initial licensure in Alberta.
