Scores are valid for 2 years only. Comply with all legislation governing pharmacy practice while adhering to established ethical standards and practices. Build knowledge of the latest pharmaceutical products, practices and drug distribution systems. Hands-on, applied learning gained through labs and field placement completed concurrently with academic studies. Ontario Secondary School Diploma or the equivalent, or if 18 years of age or over, you may apply as a mature student and write an entrance exam. Graduates of the program are eligible for direct admission into the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canadacertification process and the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia registration process.

The demand for Pharmacy Technicians is expected to rise in order to meet the health care needs of Canada’s growing and aging population. It is expected the roles and responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician will continue to evolve in the years to come. Career opportunities exist in community/retail, hospital, long-term care, pharmaceutical companies and government agencies.
Each semester must be successfully completed before enrolling in the next semester. A major emphasis of this program is active student participation. Throughout the program the instructor will encourage the students to become increasingly more self directed and responsible for their own learning. Students are expected to come to class well prepared for active participation in classroom and lab activities. As a Community Pharmacy Assistant, working alongside a registered pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician, you are an integral part of the healthcare team that provides community pharmaceutical services. Complete the Ethics & Jurisprudence exam.

In all programs, however, students can expect lab work and work placements as part of the curriculum. Though they do not actually dispense medications themselves, pharmacy technicians collaborate with pharmacists in the preparation and dispensation of medication, as well as in providing customer care. They are also responsible for managing pharmaceutical inventory. Placement agencies require an up-to-date clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector check prior to going out on placement.
“Multi-doctoring” is when a patient visits multiple health care providers to obtain multiple prescriptions, within a 30 day period, without informing the prescribers about every prescription or narcotic obtained. We may ask for your consent to seek additional information from your health providers. This is to ensure you are managing your health condition, and are able to provide safe patient care. Sometimes, regular monitoring is necessary to ensure you remain healthy and fit to practice. EMR-generated signatures are only acceptable to pharmacists when the prescription is transmitted directly from the EMR to the pharmacy of the patient’s choice, as in the case of a fax.
Once you’ve successfully reviewed and assessed your practice, use this information to identify opportunities for practice improvements. Then create an action plan to address gaps. Complete a self-assessment to identify areas for improvement, such as a review of patient record content. Semester 2 focuses on hospital pharmacy practice, including the preparation of sterile products. Semester 2 is 11 weeks in duration. Students must successfully complete all courses in Semester 2 before enrolling in Semester 3. To register on the ACP Student Register, please submit a completed application form and all the items specified on the application checklist to ACP. PEBC Qualifying Exam results must be current within 3 years at the time of application for initial pharmacist licensure. If exam results exceed the 3-year limit, the provisional pharmacist will be required to retake both Part I and Part II of the PEBC Qualifying Exam prior to initial licensure in Alberta.
